3,359 fires across the UAE during first six months of 2012

New statistics have showed that 85 people have been killed in 3,359 fires across the UAE during the first six months of 2012.

Civil defence authorities at the Ministry of Interior also reported that 2,180 people have been injured in blazes.

The figures revealed that 17 people were reported dead and 161 injured in the fires that occurred in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region.

In Dubai one person died and 86 were injured, five people were reported dead and 82 were injured in fires across Sharjah.

The rest of the deaths have been recorded in the northern emirates including Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, RAK and Fujairah.

The officers said that most of the fires broke out in high rise residential buildings, warehouses, factories and under construction buildings.

Most of the infernos were attributed to a failure to observe safety regulations in buildings.
