'Bullied' child in hospital
A boy who was badly hurt when a gate fell on his head at school claims he was a victim of bullying.
Eight-year-old Abdullah Mohammad Mansur, a Grade 3 student at Sharjah Public School, said that he was on his way to the school canteen on Thursday morning when a group of boys from Grades 5 and 6 started shoving him near the school gate.
“The boys are bigger than me and they are not my friends,” he told 7DAYS yesterday at Sharjah’s Royal Hospital.

Eight-year-old Abdullah Mohammad Mansur said that he was attacked at the gate of Sharjah's Public School
“They pushed the loose gate, which fell on my head. I don’t know what happened next. Now I’m in hospital.”
The school confirmed the incident, but would not say whether it was a case of bullying. It said it was conducting its own investigation with Sharjah Police.
Abdullah suffered deep cuts to his head, nose and eyes but doctors at the hospital said he was out of danger and would be discharged within days.
Mansur’s parents, who are Egyptian, said they have not yet made an official complaint as they have been too busy looking after him. However, Sharjah Police said they were investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Education Council said a school where an 11-year-old girl was brutally attacked last month will be shut down if it is found to have breached safety rules.

“I must say, all these stories coming out of Sharjah are not good for the image of the UAE. Maids falling off roofs, baby girls falling off balconies, bullies putting kids in comas...what is the real story behind all this violence?”
