Cops wait to question maid in fatal skewer attack

A housemaid who is recovering in hospital after stabbing her colleague with a skewer has told prosecutors she was trying to defend herself when she killed her friend.

A team of prosecutors visited the Ethiopian housemaid on Tuesday at Rashid Hospital in Dubai where she is undergoing treatment for a wound to her throat. However, the woman has not yet been formally quizzed as the authorities are waiting for her condition to improve and a full psychological assessment to be done.

A Dubai Police officer manning her hospital bed said: “We want her to feel free to talk to us and tell us all the details of the incident.”

The officer said she has talked of her regret for the incident and had tried to commit suicide in hospital.

Police on Monday received a call to a villa in Bur Dubai saying two maids had locked themselves in a laundry room and were fighting. When officers arrived they found the women in a pool of blood. One of them was dead.
