Couple arrested at Sharjah airport for attempted baby smuggling
Sharjah Police have arrested an Arab couple that attempted to smuggle their five month old baby into the UAE in their hand luggage.
Airport security staff were shocked when they scanned one of the couple’s bags and found the youngster inside.
The couple arrived at Sharjah International Airport with their five month old son on Friday aboard a flight from their home country.
However the child was denied entry into UAE by airport immigration officials since he possessed no residence visa.
Police said the child’s father had advised his wife to stuff the baby into one of their bags insisting that he would be safe and that no one would notice.
At around 10am on Saturday, the bag containing the baby went through an X-ray scanner. Security staff opened it and found the baby. When questioned, the baby’s mother said that she had been coerced by her husband to do it.
Police have charged the couple with endangering the life of the baby and attempting to smuggle him into the UAE.
