Customer service here really has gone mad
It’s goes from the sublime to the ridiculous here with customer service.
I went into a petrol station in Um Suqeim today just to buy a Salik card. When I went into the shop I was greeted by every single person in every corner of the shop with a loud and rather robotic sounding ‘hello maam’. I asked for the card and another girl, not the one serving me, said perhaps I would like to buy a raffle ticket? No, I politely said, I only want to buy the Salik card.
They looked a bit miffed!

It’s all a bit false and frankly cheesy and uncomfortable. I might go elsewhere in the future so I don’t have to duck and dive the chorus. Please try to get this type of service to a level we can all deal with!!!!
Cringeworthy.

“Hooray! Before there was somebody complaining about lack of service, now for someone is way too much. It is looks like salespeople from small shops in Bur Dubai, getting jobs as managers of respectful outlets and forcing poor sales personnel to chase shoppers "AND FORCE THEM TO BUY THAT COPYWAT..." oh, sorry, it is not in Bur Dubai anymore. As for me in ideal, i'd like to have somebody in vicinity and if I am interested or there is a question, it should be possible to contact him/her. As for my wife, there shouldn't be anybody in vicinity and she will go out of shop if someone will start to interact with her. But why to get angry at poor guys/girls, just say hi and if you can, smile in return, it cost nothing.”

“Indeed the greeting you get at some places can even shock you more than welcome you. No offence to the fast food Joints but everytime i walk into a Mcdonalds or KFC all the people at the free counters scream a Hello at me and sometimes it is just way too loud for the small space they are in.... forget the noice from the petrons......
A simple welcome when u get to the counter would be good.”

“They're just doing what they've been told/trained to do. I find it hard to get annoyed by people saying hello to me with a big smile on their face.
There is a serious issue with customer service here, however. Often I'll be put off going into a shop I am heading towards if I see someone standing in the doorway, eyeballing everyone who comes near waiting to pounce. And if I continue to be followed around after I say I'm just browsing for now, then I'll just walk out, even if I was intending to buy something.
Unfortunately, it seems that some demographics enjoy being fussed over in every shop they go into so it's something I'll just have to put up with I guess.”
