Dad arrested for allegedly dumping toddler in hospital waiting area

The father of a young girl who was found abandoned in a Sharjah hospital waiting area has been arrested for dumping the child and subjecting her to abuse.

Cops say that three-year-old Amna was found at Kuwaiti Hospital by a woman, and displayed signs of being tortured. Brigadier Abdul Qader Al Ameri from Sharjah Police said: “We suspect she had been assaulted and burned.

“We spread the news on social media and that gave us useful information about her father who we then arrested at a resort in Fujairah.

“Her father confessed that he dumped his daughter because he was experiencing hard times and he said he couldn’t take care of her.” Brigadier Al Ameri added that Amna’s father, who is stateless, told them her Ethiopian mother had left the country and she did not have any identification documents.

“He said that his wife asked him to take care of their daughter because she couldn’t take her to her home country because the girl doesn’t have any ID. He claimed that he thought she would get a better life if he dumped her in the hospital,” Al Ameri added.

A relative of the father told cops that Amna was abused by her dad. “The father always threatened Amna that he would throw her on the street because he doesn’t want her to stay with her brothers from his first wife,” the relative said.

Investigations continue and DNA tests are now being conducted on the pair.
