Delivery boy accused of sex attack

A delivery boy tried to rape a woman after she invited him in to her home because he had helped catch her cat, a court heard.

The 25-year-old Syrian, who works for a restaurant, denied attempted rape when he appeared at Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

According to court records, the incident happened in May when the woman ordered manakish from the restaurant and the defendant took the food to her home in Mirdif.

He allegedly told police after being arrested that the woman answered the door wearing provocative clothing.

“He said her clothes were revealing and it turned him on,” a police officer said. “She was holding a white cat and he was handing over her food when the cat escaped and he chased after it.”

The officer added: “He returned the cat back to her and she allowed him to enter the flat. He drank some water but when she asked him to leave, he attacked her and tried to rape her.”

The woman said that she fought off the man, yelling out and scratching at his neck, and he left.

She called the police and made a complaint, and later picked the defendant out at a police line-up. The case has been adjourned to hear from the defence.
