Does Downtown attract all the crazy drivers?
I had to laugh at the letter about the woman applying her make-up while driving in Downtown.
Maybe they had a convention for inconsiderate drivers on Emaar Boulevard this week as I was unfortunate enough to encounter another while out for a walk around 8.15am on Wednesday.
After looking both ways while attempting to cross the road near Burj Residences, I deemed it safe enough to cross as the only car was quite a way away.

However this must have dented the suited driver’s pride as he sped up when he saw me attempting to cross the road before beeping in anger at me. Only to have to stop himself to check he was OK to pull out on to Emaar Boulevard.
Seriously, Mr Silver 4x4, how is somebody already that tense and angry at that time in the morning, you’d probably been out of bed for all of 30 minutes and already you’re beeping your horn at a woman for trying to cross a road.
Calm down - trade the coffee for a herbal tea.
The attitude towards pedestrians in this country is disgusting, it’s almost like drivers think we don’t deserve to try and walk anywhere.
Keen walker, Downtown

“Try living in Marina, especially in the five buildings facing Barasti and Dubai International Marine Club on Al Safouh. Cars and motorcycles are racing all the way till dawn or taxi drivers honking all the way till 3 AM. Why would anyone want to live in Marina or invest in property if basic civil driving manners can't be enforced? No cameras to capture racers, no speed bumps on Al Safouh, no permanent police patrol at night to get drivers to behave. Very disappointed in my life here as rents isn't cheap and drivers make the area a car ghetto rather than a posh community like it is supposed to be.”

“I agree with you. Drivers don't undestand the basic manners of driving here. A driving instructor once told me that driving was a part of " your manners ". Honking is a sign of rudeness. Speeding is a sign of carelessness. So basically, there are a lot of careless and rude folks out there.”

“You're right. Even at pedestrian crossings you have to run for you life also. While I stop and give way, the cars in the other lanes don't bother to stop and keep their pace.............”
