Driven to court over car rental
A woman who claims she rented a car for just one week is being taken to court by the hire company - which claims she owes more than Dhs300,000.
The court battle erupted between the Egyptian woman and the Abu Dhabi car rental firm after she hired a BMW 3 Series last year while her vehicle was being serviced.
According to court records, the company claim the woman actually rented four cars for a year. However, she says she only owes Dhs3,000 for a week’s rental of one car.
The woman claims the problems began when her husband, who works in property, gave the manager of the car rental business a deal on an apartment.
When the manager and his family were later asked to vacate the flat, the woman claims they refused and the tenant filed the case against her, alleging that she rented the four cars.
“This whole experience has been a complete nightmare,” she told 7DAYS outside of court.
However, the car rental firm said it was leaving the matter to the courts to decide.
A spokesman said: “We are not going to waste too much time on this.”
He added: “The truth is coming out in court and the judge will see that we have been telling the truth all along.
“We are the victim here.”
A verdict has yet to be issued.
