Driver’s painful parking capers in the capital
I read the 7DAYS cover on Feb 18 ‘Parking Fraud Earns Driver a Ticket Home’ with interest. My recent experience with parking in the capital has left a bad taste.
I was running a little late after a traffic jam and trying to navigate the streets with no names. I found a space then tried to pay for two hours of parking time.
Out of the six coins I had only two worked. The rest were just spat back out of the machine. Another machine, same result. So I used the two coins to buy one hour and left a nice note explaining the situation and the four coins on the windscreen - hoping an inspector would understand that I was actually willing to pay for the parking.

Have you had a painful parking experience in the UAE? Send your letter to letters@7days.ae.
However, when I returned there was a penalty notice right next to my note and the coins. Perhaps there is a ploy to have machines not accept coins. The revenue from infringements is far more lucrative.

“The machines are still not accepting the new shiny Dh1 and Mawaqef is not doing anything about it despite their promise to change the machanism of all machines as of Feb 2013!”
