ENOC to operate metro stores
Emirates National Oil Com-pany (ENOC) has signed a deal to operate 28 convenience stores at Dubai Metro stations, the company said.
The stores will be branded 'Zoom' and ENOC said yesterday that three stores have already been opened, two at Rashidiya station, and one at the Mall of the Emirates station.
ENOC plans to operate 18 Zoom stores on the Red Line, which was officially launched last night and ten on the Green Line, which is due to open in June 2010.
"Zoom will tap the new metro user community and we aim to position it as the flagship non-fuel retail brand of the company," Saeed Abdullah Khoory, ENOC's group chief exec-utive said yesterday.
The stores will be open from 7am to 12am, and will range in size from 14 sqm to 105 sqm.
Last month, rival retailer Last Minute opted to forfeit its deposit and withdrew its bid to operate 18 stores on the Red Line. Last Minute said at the time that it had withdrawn due to the Roads and Transport Authority's refusal to provide guaran-tees of when the stations would open.
There will be a total of 52 retail stores located at the stations, the RTA said.
