Eid shopper arrested for visiting Dubai Mall in his underwear
Police officials have branded an Eid shopper “shameful” after he was arrested while strolling around Dubai Mall wearing nothing but his underwear during a 4am shopping trip.
An undercover officer on patrol in the mall spotted the brash behavior on Sunday morning and detained the 20-year-old Emirati.
The officer said that when he quizzed the shopper, the man said he had gone to the mall in just his shoes and white pants “for fun”.

Colonel Ahmad Al Murri, from Dubai CID, said: “He claimed that he was trying to be funny and show some kind of power during over Eid Al Adha. He wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or any drugs. He claimed it was for fun.
“This is not acceptable behaviour. It’s shameful. This man is supposed to set a good example, especially with Dubai celebrating Eid with 24-hour mall openings. Anyone who tries to be funny in this way will be punished. We will stand strong against such behaviour.”
Colonel Al Murri added: “We will not be easy on such offenders.”
He said the suspect was arrested and taken to Bur Dubai Police Station. A photo of the man and two clothed friends, left, has been circulating on social networking sites and via BlackBerry Messenger.
Dubai Police also tweeted about his arrest, and Twitter users in the UAE were quick to respond. One said: “I’m for arresting him. It’s not an acceptable act.”
Another tweeted: “Maybe the tailor didn’t finish his Eid candoura! (sic)” The Emirati has been referred to public prosecution and charged with indecent exposure.

“What about all the other scantily clad ( wearing very little at all, including micro-skirts, see-through mini-dresses, and even bikinis and speedos) to the mall. it seems a whole load of whoo-haa over this young lad, but we turn a blind eye to all the other people whether holidaying here in Dubai or otherwise living here as expats, despite the signs notifying people to wear proper attire at the malls....”

“Call it a protest for gender equality :) yesterday I saw two girls at Deira CC and was wondering how to call the piece of clothing they were wearing - short skirts? wide belts? Women are leading when it comes to bad taste and ignoring the dressing etiquette. And yes, I am a woman.”
