A driver has died from his injuries days after being beaten up in a road rage incident, Abu Dhabi Police said.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of the 50-year-old Emirati.

The brothers, also Emirati, aged 24 and 25, are accused of attacking the man after he refused to let them pass - forcing other vehicles on the road to slow down.

Police said their initial investigations found that an argument began between the brothers and the dead man during the incident on April 22 - it then turned into a fight.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries a few days later, said Major General Mohammad bin Al Awadi Menhali, director of operations at the Abu Dhabi Police.

The incident, which happened in the evening, caused a massive tailback on the road.

Menhali said the two men were in a car behind the Emirati’s vehicle when they flashed their lights to ask him to let them pass.

“When the motorist refused to get out of the way, the two brothers then engaged in an argument with him after they both parked their vehicles on the roadside,” said Menhali, adding that investigations were still ongoing.

He said the suspects will be referred to the Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution once police have finished their probe.

Menhali also urged motorists to always show good manners while on the roads and warned youths against violent behaviour as it could land them into trouble.

“"Menhali also urged motorists to always show good manners while on the roads and warned youths against violent behaviour as it could land them into trouble."
This is good advice, but the majority of drivers have no manners at all, they drive so close to the back of your car (in a country where 'tail-gating' is supposed to be a crime). There are two types of driers who flash their lights at you. The first type are the ones who drive right up to your bumper and keep flashing until you move – God forbid you have to brake they would end up in your back seat; the second, are speeding along almost double the speed limit and driving towards you like a bat out of hell flashing or driving with their high-beams on. Both are rather terrifying, yet nothing seems to be done about these drivers. They are usually young and arrogant, and have been the victim of their aggression on the roads. They usually flash and expect you to move, when there is nowhere to move too, and if you could spot a space in the next lane in the distance, you would have to go over the speed limit and risk getting a ticket. Something really needs to be done with these drivers. Maybe licenses should be confiscated,.”
