Employer accused of torturing, killing maid
An employer in Abu Dhabi has denied killing her housemaid but admitted handing out beatings to make the worker a better cleaner.
The Emirati woman told Abu Dhabi Criminal Court on Sunday: “I only beat her up. I just wanted her to do the housework properly.
“I didn’t mean to hurt or kill her.” The Ethiopian maid was found dead in the bathroom at her employer’s home. A forensic report revealed that the woman died from wounds she sustained during an assault.

An employer in Abu Dhabi has denied killing her housemaid but admitted handing out beatings to make the worker a better cleaner
The Emirati defendant’s two children told prosecutors that they witnessed their mother torturing the housemaid daily.
Her daughter said: “One day, during Ramadan, I found my mother beating up the maid. She poured boiling water on her body and threw pepper in her eyes.” The girl, whose age was not mentioned in court papers, said her mum had tied the maid’s feet together with an electrical cable as she beat her. She added: “The woman could not resist the torture.”
This incident took place just a few days before the maid died, according to the girl. Prosecutors allege that when the woman discovered the dead maid she told her two children to change the worker’s clothes in an attempt to hide the crime.
The defendant is accused of trying to hide evidence by getting her children to change the Ethiopian’s clothes and put a new outfit on her.
Prosecutors said the maid’s torn and blood-stained clothes were later recovered.
They have charged the Emirati boss with assault leading to death. She denied the charge. The case was adjourned to December 31 and the woman remains in custody.

“Yet another sad case of human traffic outrage where people must know and turn a blind eye. You cannot convince me that the "maid" was working there voluntarily and submitting herself to this abuse.”

“in reality...let's face it.
the court will go on trial and the decision will XXX amount of years in jail and after 6 months or a year an appeal will be done and her XXX amount of years in jail will be cut to half...and after that it will be even less..this is Dubai, UAE.
to prove it...1. the case of the guys who beat a woman to death in a parking lot for defending her friend as he was insulting her friend.
2. 2 ladies neighbors who beat a maid to death as well and get their sentence from 13 yrs to 7 yrs.
It is sad...very sad...”

All African governments should come up with rigid law that our ladies who are our cradle of humanity should not be traded, trafficked like prey for vultures,
African women our cladle, of procreation better die home in human dignity than being mistreated by vultures,
May God pusnish severely those who trafficked, traded and miss treated his creatures those innocent ladies, who do know those evil people.”

“What is really disturbing is the casual attitude of the woman. Beating up the maid is just a way of life and deep down inside, she has no remorse whatsoever about taking the life of another human being. For her, the death of the maid is an inconvenience and its probbaly the maid's fault that she died.”

“Obviously the solution is awareness campaign stringent controls but more importantly why can't they profiling of people who want to hire a maid. Why is it any Tom, Dick or Harry can hire a maid bring them into their homes take full control over their lives and well-being and they are not vetted. Why is it repeat offenders are allowed to hire over and over again, why can't immigration stop people that have ex-number of complaints against them from applying for housemaid visas. I guarantee that will start curb this type of horrible behaviour when there is a real threat that they will actually have to do the cleaning themselves suddenly they will change their attitude if the alternative is holding the toilet brush themselves, or have to change a nappy with their own 2 hands.”
