Fake cop in court on rape charge

An Emirati man appeared in court today charged with rape and posing as a policeman after he allegedly lured and attacked a Filipino woman by pretending to be a cop.

Dubai Court of First Instance was told that, according to police records, the 29-year-old victim was approached by the defendant as she left her friend’s apartment in the Al Qusais area of Dubai in January this year.

He stopped her and showed her police ID, telling her to come with him because she was wearing indecent clothes not allowed in the UAE, the prosecution alleges.

“He showed me a police ID and then told me to get in his car to go to the police station. I did so. But as we drove off, he asked me if I was a virgin,” the victim claimed.

“He told me that he would take me to hospital for checking and claimed that my clothes could get me deported.”

The victim alleges that the defendant stopped his car in a dark parking area where he raped her.

“I was terrified and didn’t inform anyone for two days but then I decided to go to the police,” she added.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and the trial has been adjourned until next month while his defence is prepared.
