Human trafficker gets hefty prison term from judge

The leader of a human trafficking ring who forced a young girl into prostitution has been jailed for life.

Dubai Court of First Instance heard yesterday how the Bangladeshi kingpin and five others imprisoned the 17-year-old in a brothel and forced her to have sex with several customers.

Official records show that the victim arrived in Dubai from Bangladesh in January 2010.

One of the defendants met her at the airport and took her to a flat where he raped her five times. After being forced to have sex with a number of clients the teen borrowed a phone off a customer and called her brother begging for help.

Police then set up a sting which saw a woman pretend that she wanted to buy the girl for Dhs2,500. She arranged to meet the youngster's captors to hand over the cash and police swooped in and arrested them.

The head of Dubai Public Prosecution said they always ask for the maximum penalty in human trafficking cases to crackdown on traffickers. The ringleader's friends all received five year jail terms.

Attorney General Eissam Issa Al Humaidan said: "Every one should stand against such crimes and support each other to prevent human trafficking in our community."

Two other women who were working in the brothel were jailed for a year.
