Great law to look after maids - what about us?
It was nice to hear that UAE national parliament has been thinking of protecting maids and others.
But it would be nice to hear also if they can protect us expats with low income. We have been working for years and still no increment for us, even if we change jobs the same salary will be given as we are just ‘Asian’. If we perform better the employer thinks that this is enough.
Discrimination is very rampant. Please help us to have a minimum wage, if we can have a WPS let’s have a minimum wage for all.

“I will provide one example for low income people. There is place in Dubai, where guys without any useful experience can start work. Let's say as cleaner. Then, if he appeared to be able read and write, and show some abilities, than he can be become foreman of cleaners, or store man. Theeen it depends of how person is able to self-improve... Year by year working hard to become somebody. I know one cleaner, who perfectly speak English, and trying to learn AutoCad since he want to become draftsman. But still there is guy working 25 years on same lowest income position. How you can expect to be good paid if you can't read, you can't write, you do not know any foreign language and not trying at all? People just should not just sit and cry about how poor and doomed they are. If you hate job and payment, find another job with better conditions and salary.”

“Personally i feel maids are well looked after by their employers. 95% of the employers are good with them. I dont understand the fuss about this issue. All the time reading their sob stories. Everywhere, there are good and bad but this doesnt mean they are mistreated by everyone. The maids are kept so well to the extent that they are taken to vacations where they can only dream of. They are provided with free flow of food. They live in Air conditioned homes. They are given clothes, shoes, their medical is taken care of. What about the taxi drivers who drive for 12 hours continously. If anyone of us drive this much we would go crazy. The labourers working in the heat, the sales people and the delivery guys. By giving so much importance to the maids they do start taking advantage of their employers so what about the employers security who spend so much money to bring them over. Dubai is not the only country in the world where maids work. Nobody else makes a big issue like this. These maids make a lot of money working in dubai which they cannot even think about in their home countries. They should be grateful for this opportunity given to them.”
