HR departments don't hire, they put up barriers
Searching for a job is never easy, but the UAE takes things to a whole new level.
The reason, I’m sad to say, is the incompetence and laziness of every HR department I have come across, which seem to only serve to put barriers in the way of getting the right people in the right job. Applications via websites are unopened, emails go unread, messages are never returned, phones ring out. So how do HR departments select new staff?
The result is that experienced and hard-working applicants have to rely on pure luck or knowing someone in the company to enable them to circumnavigate HR altogether. If you run a company and wonder why you can’t fill posts or end up with poor-performing employees, ask your HR department how they are making their selection and hold them accountable.
Perhaps even suggest that they write clear job descriptions that aren’t full of errors, answer their emails and calls occasionally, and have processes to screen applicants to ensure the most suitable for the job move forward.
It is the people that make up an organisation that determine its success.
