Hopping mad at having to pay to show kindness
We live in the Ranches. Near the lake where there are wild rabbits, we happened to see one who was in distress.
We brought it in and found it had a very bad leg that looked broken. We thought probably the kindest thing would be to put it out of its misery so take it to our vet, they will sort it out quickly and painlessly!
Thankfully that was the case for the rabbit, unfortunately not so much for me. I know veterinary surgeries are not charities but to charge a client who has found a rabbit who is obviously in distress with a broken leg, Dhs250 to have it put out of its misery is daylight robbery, no?

Surely vet’s have some kind of duty to wild/abandoned animals?

“Dhs250 sounds pretty reasonable to me, it sounds like he only charged you for the actual proceedure and not his usual fee, I took my cat for a check up a few weeks ago and was charged more than that for the vet to just look at him.”

“I'm sure there was a news story in China a few months ago about a baby left to die in the street because passers by were too afraid to help in case they were liable for the medical fees as had happened in the past.
It would be sad to think that people would not help animals in distress if they think they're going to be stuck with a large vet bill for doing so. The most the vet should have charged is the cost of the syringe and the substance used to put the animal out of its misery, it's bad form to profit from the good intentions of the letter writer.”

“Animal lover - once you took that rabbit you also took on all responsibility. You also moved it from its territory. Maybe mother was around somewhere. Maybe not.
The vet runs a business too of course, and he is probably never going to make money if he let's his emotions affect his business judgement, after all.
You have your heart in the right place though - wish there more like you.”

“Djoans, I couldn't have said it better.
On the other hand you could also take it to Dubai Municipality Vet Clinic at Al Khawaneej & they would charge a lot less.”

“If you were willing to do a good deed, why not pay for it? Surely you, as the Good Samaritan, were the one exercising your duty to wild/abandoned animals? It sounds like you were only willing to do half the job. You chose to take care of this abandoned creature so do it properly! This includes paying for the vet fees.”
