Husband of hotel death plunge tourist charged for alcohol consumption
Prosecutors have confirmed that a motorcycling champion whose wife plunged to her death on their honeymoon in Dubai, will appear in court next month charged with consuming alcohol.
7DAYS reported on Tuesday how 43-year-old Brit Sean Emmett was arrested when he went to Al Rashidiya Police Station to sign papers relating to Abbie’s death, nine days after she died.
A source in Dubai Public Prosecution told 7DAYS that a policeman smelt alcohol on Emmett’s breath.
“He was charged with consuming alcohol and his first hearing will be on April 30 in Dubai Court of Misdemeanors,” he said.
Abbie died on February 19 after she fell from a balcony at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Garhoud. Police said all evidence pointed to suicide.
According to UAE law the penalty for consuming alcohol is punishable by a maximum of six months in jail maximum and up to a Dhs2,000 fine.
