Learn road rules before getting behind the wheel
Dear road users, has anyone actually taught you about ‘lane discipline’?
These roads in the UAE are not ‘Freeways’ where you can drive or overtake in ANY lane. These are highways where the outside lanes are for OVERTAKING.
Please note under Dubai’s Police fines No.109: “It is an offence to not give way for vehicles to pass on the left” -Dhs200 fine. Under fines No.115: “It is an offence to overtake on the right” - 4 points and Dhs200 fine. Thus, all the people that drive in the outside lanes are forcing people to break the law by overtaking on the inside. Perhaps I have been spoilt in the past by driving in the UK.

This is where people are taught to MOVE OVER to the slower lanes once they have finished their overtaking manoeuvre. Do we have to re-train the driving instructors here as they REALLY don’t have a clue?

“A great idea, skootch but I cannot see the police enforcing it”

“Of all the crazy and murderous manouvers that occur on UAE roads my pet hate is when idiotic drivers are driving down the centre of the road when all the inner lanes are empty (usually talking on their phones) thereby turning a 6 lane highway into a 1 or 2 lane highway.
The RTA should introduce "A KEEP RIGHT CAMPAIGN" with huge signs that demand and make motorists move to the right "BY LAW" after overtaking (providing of-course that the inner lane is clear)
The police should strictly enforce this law.
Try driving down the road in the outside lanes in the UK and see how far you get before the police pull you over.”

“What about when I am in the far left lane passing the people to the right of me and some jerk comes up behind me honking his horn, flashing his lights and expecting me to move for him/her just because he/she thinks they are more important than everyone else. What do those people get? What happenes when someone has to break, because they too are following someone who is also passing the slower people next to them, as happens every morning and evening during rush hour, the jerk behind who is tailagting rear ends at high speed causing a huge accident with mulpile injuries and possibly death! What then? It isn't always the people in the far lanes causing the problems.”

“Hate to say it, but driving (and overtaking) on the inside lane is about the only safe place to drive.”
