Listener longs for some magic on the airwaves
I just moved to Dubai from the UK (a couple of months ago) and am loving my time here. Brilliant modern city with loads to do. However, what is going on with the radio stations?
They are painful to listen to. DJs who obviously have never worked on air before and playlists that repeat and repeat the same songs over and over. Surely with the traffic jams, radio has a brilliant opportunity to capture an audience in a car. This morning I made the mistake of tuning in and was amazed at the pair on air who were “entertaining us” - rank amateurs at best.
I have spoken with colleagues who say the same thing - there are no decent radio stations here. Moving to Dubai is the best thing I have done but give decent radio - it’s the only thing I miss!

“Couldn't agree more! The quality of the presenters is atrocious. I have given up. I download podcasts instead. There are some fantastic ones out there, especially from the BBC.”

“Missing the point Eddie. Surely the residents of a city should have access to good local radio which affects them? I come from the UK but live in Dubai. I want to read Dubai based newspapers/magazines and listen to Dubai stations as this is my home.”

“Totally agree with this letter. Radio is in the dark ages here. Big improvement needed all round. Poor DJs, poor play lists, poor all round. Would love to listen to a breakfast show which kicks starts the day and a drive time show which winds you down after a day in the office. 9 years in Dubai and there has been no change”
