Man accused of raping girlfriend's roommate

A student is accused of raping his girlfriend’s roommate as she comforted him about his relationship problems.

The 24-year-old Emirati has gone on trial at Dubai Court of First Instance, charged with attacking the 28-year-old Filipina.

The incident happened in January, the Filipina claims. She said the defendant called her and asked if she new where her roommate was.

“He told me that they were having problems in their relationship and I asked him to come to the flat in the Refaa area of Dubai after I finished my work,” she said in her official statement.

“He came at night and all my roommates were sleeping. We started chatting in the kitchen. He was sad about his girlfriend and I asked him to give her time to think and then he asked me to hug him and have sex.”

The woman said she pushed him away and refused, at which point he became angry and threatened to assault her.

She claimed he then he raped her as she was crying and begging him to stop.

The defendant denies rape and claimed that he had gone to the flat to recover money he was owed.

“I rented the flat for them and I went because I gave her a Dhs3,000 loan and I wanted the money back,” he said in court.

The trial has been adjourned.
