Man who killed love rival while walking his monkey is jailed

A man who killed his neighbour while he was out walking his monkey has been handed a ten year jail term.

Dubai Court of First Instance handed down the sentence to the 31-year-old Emirati yesterday.

The court had heard how the pair had got into an argument about the victim’s girlfriend.

The defendant claimed the victim challenged him to a fight so he tied up his monkey in the deserted area in Rashidiya and the pair starting attacking each other.

The defendant said: “I punched him in the face and kicked him until he fell down. Then I bit his nose and put some sand in his mouth.”

The victim then started having difficulty breathing so the defendant escaped. He was convicted of assault leading to death.
