Manchester City’s Emirati mascot recounts walk with Vincent Kompany at Etihad Stadium
Eight-year-old Emirati Ali Waleed Al Saeedi said his skin is still tingling from the emotions of Monday night's epic clash at the Etihad Stadium.
“It was such an exciting day," said Al Saeedi, who won a competition to act as mascot for Manchester City Football Club’s titanic derby day triumph over cross-city rivals.
“I met all of my Manchester City heroes, even Sergio Aguero. Now City is top of the league again - it just what I wished for!”
Al Saeedi returned to Abu Dhabi last night after the dream two-night trip to Manchester. His derby mascot duties also saw him handed an official Manchester City replica kit and signed merchandise, taken on a pre-match tour of Etihad Stadium, spend time with City’s mascots, Moonchester and Moonbeam, and then walk out on the pitch alongside City captain, Vincent Kompany, just before kick-off.
“Ali is really thankful. We both are,” said his father, Waleed.
“It has been a truly special derby for us. It’s given us memories we will treasure forever.”
The competition was backed by Etihad Airways-Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority who are the lead sponsor of Manchester City FC.
