Pictures of clothes missing sailor was wearing when he vanished are released
These are the clothes missing sailor Timmy MacColl was wearing when he vanished from outside a club in Dubai 16 days ago.
Timmy’s pregnant wife Rachael spent hours at their home in Gosport, England, pouring through family photos to find images of the Hawaiian-style shorts he was wearing the last time he was seen.
The 25-year-old then paid a visit to a supermarket close to their home to get images of the blue and white flip flops she bought for him just days before Royal Navy frigate HMS Westminster sailed out of Portsmouth to police the Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
It’s also now known that Timmy was probably wearing a red polo shirt he was given as a gift at the official opening of the Ducati Caffe in Dubai Mall on May 26, the day before he vanished after getting into a cab outside Rock Bottom in Bur Dubai.
Yesterday the couple’s uncle, Neil Cunningham, who is in Dubai to try and raise awareness about Timmy’s disappearance, said: “If flip flops or clothes like the ones Timmy was wearing are spotted by anyone walking on beaches around Dubai then they should call the police immediately.”
After retracing his nephew’s last known movements, Cunningham met with the police. He said: “I have now met with the senior investigating officers and their deputies and we are very grateful for their hard work and commitment.
“I was reassured by the limitless resources they have and very encouraged by Dubai Police.”
It’s understood CID organised a land and sea search of Port Rashid yesterday with a helicopter equipped with hi-tech imaging equipment.
Cunningham said that Rachael had also been working on an extended time-line of Timmy’s last few days in Dubai to pass to the police. He had told her what he was doing in phone calls and emails.
He added: “She’s done some sterling work piecing together what Timmy was doing from the time the ship docked in Dubai.”
It’s known that Timmy was on duty on board HMS Westminster for the first few days it was docked at Port Rashid.
He asked for special permission to call Rachael while on duty to wish her ‘Happy Anniversary’ on March 19. They have been married for six years.
HMS Westminster arrived in port around May 15.
In the three days before Timmy vanished from outside the Rock Bottom in the early hours of Sunday May 27, he had been playing rugby, visited the Atlantis Hotel water park, spent time in Dubai Mall at the Ducati Caffe and looking at the aquarium and fountains in the shadow of the Burj Khalifa.
On the last day he was seen he was at the Dubai Seafarer’s Mission all day before arriving at the Rock Bottom just before midnight.
Two of his shipmates have claimed they put him in a taxi and paid the driver Dhs70 in advance to take him to the ship.
But security staff at Rock Bottom claim Timmy, who was very drunk and had even fallen asleep in front of the bar, left with a male and a female.
Family appeals for the taxi driver to come forward and for two potential witnesses in the street outside Rock Bottom and the Regent Palace Hotel to get in contact have so far drawn a blank.
The two potentially key witnesses are a British expat regular at the Regent Palace, known as Colin and a woman of Asian appearance. Staff say Timmy spoke to both of them separately before he got in the cab.
