Police drivers must set an example for us to follow
I agree that the road accident statistics in this country are dismal ('Top Traffic Cop hits out at 'shocking' death toll', Sept 27)...
But if the head of Dubai Traffic Police wants people to start driving better, then perhaps the police in this country should be taught how to drive safely, and start setting a good example.
Just this morning, I pulled up on the right-hand side of an intersection, waiting to turn right. A police car was adjacent to me, waiting to turn left. Fortunately I waited for an oncoming car, unlike the policeman, who ignored the oncoming car and turned - wait for it - right, narrowly missing the front of my car as he did so. He then proceeded to turn left into a side road, failing to signal his intention to turn.
This is not the first police car I have seen failing to use indicators, nor the first driving without concern for the rules or other cars on the road. Come on, Dubai Police, you can do better than that - learn the rules of the road and use them, and maybe others will follow you.
