Pregnant maid is beaten and burned by lover

A cook is accused of beating his lover to death and then setting fire to her body in a bid to hide his crime.

The Indian man was arrested following the discovery of the charred corpse. Prosecutors say he murdered the housemaid after she told him she was pregnant and was planning to tell her boss.

The suspect, who worked for a family living nearby, repeatedly hit his lover over the head with a broken brick until she was dead, Abu Dhabi prosecutors have said. He then allegedly set fire to her body in her room at the villa where she worked. Prosecutors said no one else was in the building at the time as her employers were on holiday.

It is not clear how long the suspect and the victim had been having a relationship, however prosecutors believe the woman, who was also Indian, thought that she was two weeks’ pregnant.

Prosecutors believe she wanted to tell her boss about the baby in the hope that she would be sent back to her home country. They say her lover became enraged as he was terrified he would be deported as well.

“The man became furious and attacked the maid,” a prosecutor added. “He hit her on the head with pieces of broken bricks several times.” After starting the blaze, he fled, the official added. However, fingerprints found in the villa placed him at the scene.

Police investigating the woman’s death took fingerprints from the walls of the villa and the surrounding area. They then arrested the cook.

Prosecutors said that a forensic examination of the victim’s body confirmed that she had been hit with a hard object on the head, which caused her death.

They also said that the suspect admitted to killing the maid and setting fire to her room during interviews conducted as part of the investigation into her death.

The cook has been referred to Abu Dhabi Courts on charges of murder, arson and having an illegal affair. A date has yet to be set for his first hearing and he is being held in custody.
