Queues for residents was mooted before
Re Wednesday’s letter about queues at immigration in Dubai Airport.
A few years ago my wife and I suggested to officials there that separate desks for UAE residents, tourists and those on new work visas might be a good idea.
We were accused of being racist! Nothing has changed and the long wait continues. What a bad first impression for visitors.

“itsjustme and Abhishek1979: Unfortuately egate is only for over-18s so those with children are still lumbered with the queues.”

“@itsjustme: actually I had my egate since 2005 I believe. Everyone seems to be worried about visitors and tourists while the one that are doing the relentless nagging are the residents. get an egate and spare us please!!!”

“What's the huha all about? e-gate, smart gate or whatever you want to call it.
It's been made available 2 years ago. Takes you 5 minutes to have it issued, and if you are a resident you are in and out of the airport in minutes.
Non residents or not having done your e-gate? Well, let's be realistic, in any airport you fly in that caters for large volume of passengers queues will be there... and if you land at pick timings you will have to be patient just like all other travelers in the queue with you.
The fact of having different nationalities, languages and visa requirements all at once quiet often do tend to create congestions.”

“I was at T3 yesterday, the officer at the immigration suggested to me I register at the newly launched Smart Gate, which I did , took about 4 minutes to do so, from now on no longer wait in the queue, immigration will be a breeze. This facility is only for Residents.I think finally someone listened to our cries .”
