Accidents involving drivers jumping red lights have dropped by 37.5 per cent on Al Ain roads during the past nine months, compared to statistics from the same period last year, according to police.

Major Mohsen Saeed Al Mansouri, head of the traffic and patrols department at Al Ain Police, said just one person had died in 10 accidents between January and September.

There were 16 crashes caused by red light jumpers in the same period last year. He attributed the fall in figures to increased road safety awareness among drivers, extra police patrols and speed cameras on the roads.

“Cameras at intersections have helped reduce red light jumping,” said Al Mansouri.
