Ruler of Dubai claims Expo would 'astonish' world, tweets support
The UAE will "astonish the world" if it hosts the 2020 Expo, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai said on Tuesday.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum made his comment as he tweeted his support for Dubai’s bid to host the World Expo 2020, on the day the organisation that oversees world fairs met in Paris. Delegates from the Higher Committee for hosting the 2020 World Expo in Dubai were present at the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) assembly.
Sheikh Mohammed posted on Twitter: “Our region deserves the chance to organise this great world exhibition. Our country is ready to host it.
“We also pledge to breathe life into our slogan -we will bring minds together for a better future. We promised to astonish the world when we host Expo 2020 in #Dubai. Today we stand by our pledge #UAE.”
Sheikh Mohammed also thanked the countries that announced their support for Dubai to host the Expo 2020, adding that the nation’s message is of “love and peace”. He said: “The Middle East is not a region of tensions and conflicts but a region where cultures, civilisations and innovation can meet and flourish.”
Sheikh Mohammed began a three-day trip to France on Tuesday, along with a high-level UAE delegation. His visit is not in connection to the BIE gathering. He will meet French president Francois Hollande and key officials.
The Dubai Ruler posted a picture from Paris on his Instagram account of himself with his wife HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, his son Dubai Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan
"Attending the Bureau International des Expositions GA meeting in Paris... With pride I say, we are ready to host Expo 2020 and stage the best Expo in history," Sheikh Mohammed captioned the image.
Dubai is one of five cities bidding to stage the Expo 2020. If the bid is successful, the expo will run from October 2020 to April 2021. The winner will be announced in November.
