Sex worker used as bait to trap men

A woman suspected of prostitution cooperated with police to set up her customer, an Abu Dhabi prosecutor was told yesterday.

The woman agreed to meet regular clients in their apartments and police swooped in to arrest them as soon as the doors opened.

One client, a 30-year-old Indian man, appeared at the prosecutor’s office in handcuffs and shackles yesterday.

He told 7DAYS he had paid for the woman, whom he described as a “call girl”, to come to his Musaffah flat twice. The man told 7DAYS that he had always been respectful to the woman.

“I never forced her to come over, it was always by agreement,” he said. “It was only when I was arrested that I learned she had set me up. Of course I knew she was a call girl but I live alone and many men do such things. I didn’t think I was doing anything so bad. I always treated her very nice. There are sex attackers in the jail, men who attack or rape women. It is not like that. Men have needs and it was only that.”

The man has been charged with soliciting a prostitute.

Police would not say how many other clients were netted in the sting but revealed the defendant was “not the only one involved”.

They said the woman will be given a reduced sentence for her cooperation.
