Shahid Kapoor arrives late at kids centre but still thrills the children
Children at a special needs centre cheered and greeted Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor with flowers last night when he stopped by for a visit - even though he was two hours late.
The actor was in Dubai for the premiere of his latest movie, ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’, and was due to visit Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs at 5.30pm, along with co-star Priyanka Chopra.
However, Chopra cancelled on the day, which organisers said threw Kapoor’s schedule into disarray. However, the long wait did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the children, who patiently waited and then clapped and called out his name as he arrived along with the film’s director, Kunal Kohli.
Meanwhile, Chopra was landing in Dubai in time to make it to the premiere at VOX cinemas at Mall of the Emirates last night.
Organisers apologised for the delay, with a spokesperson saying: “Unfortunately the change in Priyanka’s schedule meant we had to juggle and restructure the day’s commitments.
“Shahid tried to accommodate all requests but unfortunately this meant things got delayed.”
However, he added that despite the problems, Kapoor had insisted that he visit the centre and spend time with the children.
The excited students entertained the actor with a special Bollywood performance they had rehearsed for the event.
One of the teachers at the centre said: “The kids love dancing to Bollywood songs, and they learn the steps fast.”
And Ram Buxani, a member of the board of governors, added celebrity visits were always welcome, saying: “Celebrities can raise awareness for charitable causes. They also bring some cheer to the kids.”
Chopra missed the visit because her brother was in intensive care in a hospital in Mumbai.
‘Teri Meri Kahaani’, a Hindi romantic drama, goes on release across the UAE today.
