A two-year-old boy has died from suffocation after his parents forgot they had left him sleeping in the car.

Police in Kalba, near Fujairah, said the Emirati family had been on an outing on Saturday and arrived home at 3pm. They parked the car in the garage.

A Fujairah Police source told 7DAYS that the boy’s father and other family members got out of the car and left the child sleeping on the back seat.

Four hours later, the family realised the boy was not in the house.

“They rushed back to the vehicle and opened it only to find he was dead,” the source added. A senior police officer in Kalba said the boy suffocated because of excessive heat, with the temperature exceeding 40C.

The boy’s body was taken to hospital and police were called. A forensic report ruled out any foul play in the child’s death.

The child’s parents were questioned by officers about the incident. It is not clear whether they will face any charges.

The force urged all parents to keep a close eye on their children at all times.

“An average of 38 children die in this way every year in the United States. Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, not even for a minute. The risks are too great. Sometimes, people think they'll be "just a minute" and either don't realize how little time it takes for a tragedy to occur or they forget, get sidetracked, and by the time they remember it's far too late. Even on mild days, car interiors can heat up 20 degrees in just 10 minutes. In just 10 minutes a child can succumb to heat stroke and die. Is that errand really worth it?
Sometimes, leaving them alone is unintentional, a horrible consequence of an overworked parent forgetting they have the child with them or really thinking they dropped the child off at daycare when in fact they hadn't. No matter how it happens, it's unacceptable, especially as it's preventable. There are many safety measures one can take to make sure this never happens to them. I know, you don't think it can happen to you. I'm glad you're diligent. As a loving parent, take an extra moment out of your routine and be extra diligent, for the sake of your child. They are so worth it.
*Never talk on your cell phone while driving, it contributes to distraction from your child.
*Leave a purse/wallet in the back seat with baby so that you must check the rear before exiting.
*Leave a teddy bear in the carseat. When putting baby in the seat, put teddy in the front with you as a reminder.
*Make it a habit to always look in the backseat, even if you are SURE your child isn't there. In some cases, the other parent places the child in the spouse's car unbeknownst to the spouse/driver.
    * Keep vehicles locked at all times; even in the garage or driveway and always set your parking brake.
*Use your debit or credit card to pay for gas at the pump.
*Support legislation requiring car makers to install child alert devices in all vehicles. They sense the child's weight in the seat and set off an alarm if the driver leaves the car without the child. These already exist, yet carmakers are unwilling to use them. Let's fight them on it. The kids matter more than the money.
If you ever see a child alone in a vehicle, call the police immediately. You do not know how long they have been left alone already and time is of the essence. Do NOT look for the individual who left them there. They are never grateful and usually angry at what they consider your "intrusion". It does not help the child. If the window is down or the door is unlocked, proceed to remove the child from the car to cool the body temp down. If you have to, break the window to remove the child. A piece of glass is not more valuable than a child's life.”

I'm a mother of one but never in my life even in my mind that i forgot my child. were parents so we know our responsibility & obligation. so, there is no reasons that you just go and forget that you have a child sleeping at the back. of course its common sense, your a parents so you will check time to time if your children is with you, right. so, its unacceptable...”

“After four hours they realized the baby was not in the house?!? Everybody realizes their precious cellphones are missing in a matter of second! I refuse to believe human beings can reach this level of stupidity. I regret reading this because my mind is now occupied with a baby baking like a turkey inside the car.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore...”
