Swimmer floats a plea for public pools
Dubai has many things but something it seems to be lacking is decent public swimming pools.
I don’t live in a gated community with nice communal pools, I live in an apartment block where the ‘swimming pool’ is a bizarre thing dug out of the ground as an afterthought.
It’s not big enough to ‘swim’ in and it’s way too deep to even contemplate giving anyone swimming lessons. I’m looking for a pool to take my young child swimming and get them used to water but I’m struggling to find anyway - for a decent price.

There doesn’t seem to be any public sports centres where you can just pay to walk in; there only seems to be expensive clubs that you have to join and even then the ‘Dubai set’ turn their noses up at you when you walk in.
All I want is somewhere that we can rock up, pay a few dirhams and have a splash about. Can anybody pool some ideas?

“two ideas:
The Al Mamzar beach park is beautiful and has a pool on site.
Personally I would consider going to an open beach near the wave breaks (the part in between two beaches). The water is especially calm and much more buoyant than a swimming pool, yes its salty but if the get into distress or tired the could float on their back, also as its got a sloping gradient you can be super shallow (provided they are old enough to stand.)
The other option is, just walk into a hotel with a nice outdoor pool and go in, don't ask, just use it... we used to do that when we were on holiday, I just grew up thinking that was normal as we were likely to spend some money there.
lastly, use your friends pool, that's what friends are for :)”

“Try Musharif Park. They have two public pools, one for men and one for women. It is compulsory for everyone to wear swim caps. The pool facilities are good and the children can have a run afterwards in the park.”
