'Teachers are not giving us the skills to tackle the outside world'
Why is it that we, as seniors, are NOT prepared for the outside world when we leave school?
Why is it that our teachers just teach us what’s in our syllabus?
As a senior, I think that what is taught to us inside the classroom is not enough for what is waiting for us outside those walls. Shouldn’t we be prepared to face the world and who better to teach us how to take our first baby steps other than our teachers.

“@mallking: I thought that it was the maids's responsibility ;)
Anyway, I don't see what the problem is. The only thing that will teach you about the outside world is the outside world. Has been like this for thousands of years and will always be.”

“Dear N Ricci ,
I totally sympathize with you. Students are not being prepared to handle the transition to University and to the work place. In the rush to complete subject portions , this aspect of education is often kept on the back burner and not given its due importance. With the work environment changing so very quickly, it is critical that students understand their inherent skills and challenges , their transferable skills which are general abilities that are useful across a range of different jobs and industries and even in one's personal life. Unfortunately it is difficult to capture this information from school and equally a challenge to conduct development programs that run year long. Exams /Assignments , the tight study schedule often come in the way of such programs. As an academic counsellor I administer Psychometric Assessments to high school students to identify inherent skill and challenges which can go a long way in preparing you for Uni as well as the work environment. You are welcome to come in for a free assessment! Drop me a mail on info@varsityconnections.com. Regards ,Tara, Dubai”

“Parents are responsible for teaching children about the outside world, teachers are there to teach against a set educational curriculum and that is where it ends. Frankly speaking I would not want school teachers in Dubai trying (and failing) to teach my child about the "outside" world.
Not sure there is any need for calling someone an orphan though Ramjet, not very constructive and rude to say the very least.”

“It is truly sad to hear this from a senior student. The best schools and the best teachers are those who are open-minded enough to look at how curriculum coverage can be achieved through a more inspiring, 'outside the box' and beyond the classroom approach. First hand experiences related to their studies, through local and overseas trips, enhance their understanding of the world as do projects that have relevance and meaning in their lives. If teachers are still using only knowledge-based learning, they are failing their students, but instead of putting full blame on teachers, you need to look at the school system that allows that to happen. With thousands of students in Dubai, what percentage are inspired to learn and are achieving their potential? Instead of having a school where students see walls around them, they should have the freedom to express themselves openly and share the direction in which they are going. A school curriculum should help not hinder them to do that. Pete Milne”

“It all depends on the type of educational institute you attend. There are schools who focus solely on the syllabus and there are schools who have well rounded approach and are proactive in creating an environment that helps prepare their students for the outside world. Also remember that your parents also have their part to play in helping you tackle the outside world - their input is more important then that of a teacher.”

“Teachers are there to provide education. Preparing you for the outside world is the job of your parents.”

“An interesting view on educators. Clearly you are an orphan otherwise you would realise that it is your parents responsibility to prepare you for the outside world. I suspect that your teachers are hard pressed in teaching you the subjects that they are contracted to do and get paid for. You may be better to look to your parents for your life skills.”

“What about your parents? Or did their responsibility end after birth?”
