Tough Father's Day without missing dad Timmy MacColl

Missing sailor Timmy MacColl’s wife and children will be spending Father’s Day wondering what’s happened to him after he vanished during shore leave in Dubai.

The 27-year-old dad-of-two disappeared after getting into a taxi outside the Rock Bottom Café in Bur Dubai on May 27.

Yesterday his wife, Rachael, who is expecting their third child in October, revealed that the couple had planned to celebrate Father’s Day today, and other landmark days he missed, when he got home in August.

She said: “He missed Valentine’s Day, our sixth wedding anniversary and Fathers’ Day. We were going to celebrate them all when he got home, like we always do.

“We were planning a holiday at Legoland with the kids after he got back at the beginning of August.

“Normally on Fathers’ Day Timmy would have called from the ship and the kids would tell him there were presents and cards waiting for him.”

Instead, Rachael, 25; Cameron, seven; Skye, four, and their extended family will be watching Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower being lit up yellow in Timmy’s honour.

The tower, which resembles Dubai’s Burj Al Arab Hotel, will turn yellow at 7pm in an extension of a massive ‘yellow ribbon’ campaign in the couple’s home town of Gosport.

Timmy had spent the last day he was seen in Dubai at the Seafarers’ Mission before going to Rock Bottom just before midnight.

Onlookers said two sailors, a male and a female, ushered him into a taxi. He never returned to his ship, HMS Westminster, which was docked at Port Rashid.
