Trio jailed for kidnap and torture in Al Ain
Three men have been jailed for kidnapping a man from his home and torturing him.
Al Ain Criminal Court sentenced one of the men to 19 years behind bars and the other two to 17 years after the court found them guilty of abducting the Emirati and taking him to the desert, where they stripped him naked, tortured him and filmed it on mobile phones.
The court also ordered each of the defendants pay Dhs100,000 in damages to the victim.
The trio - two Emiratis and an Arab - were all found guilty of kidnap, assault, theft, performing indecent acts and consuming drugs.
The court was told the men forced their way into the victim’s home.
“They hit me on the head with a sharp object, tied me up and ransacked the place,” the victim testified. They then forced him into a car.
He said the men, one of whom was his ex-wife’s brother, blindfolded him and took him to a house in the desert.
“The men stripped me naked and filmed me with their mobile phones,” the victim added. He said they also burned his hands with cigarettes and scratched his back with knives.
He grabbed his chance to escape when two of the kidnappers left the house. He walked 6km through the desert before he reached a farm and got help.
