UAE energy leader to light up UN summit
A graduate who braved the Antarctic wilderness on a 16-day expedition is to speak of the country's commitment to tackling environmental challenges.
She will be speaking at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development this week.
The Rio+20 Summit, taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from Wednesday to Friday, is the largest-ever conference organised by the United Nations.
UAE national Maitha Al Kaabi (pictured), a Master’s graduate in Water and Environmental Engineering and a member of the Young Future Energy Leaders initiative at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, will be among 50,000 participants addressing the issue of a sustainable future through the likes of food security, water and energy at the Rio meet.
“I am privileged to be part of the Rio+20 Summit, which seeks to raise awareness among decision-makers and corporate leaders on the need to remain sustainable,” said Al Kaabi, who will also tell delegates of her Antarctic adventures with the Masdar Institute earlier this year.
