Viktor Bout to serve time in 'Alcatraz of Rockies'

Arms dealer Viktor Bout will spend his 25 year sentence in a maximum security prison, a US federal judge has ruled.

The former Sharjah resident is being sent to ADX Florence in Colorado, considered one of America’s most secure jails.

It has been dubbed ‘The Alcatraz of the Rockies’ for its reputation as an impenetrable fortress.

Bout, who shipped hundreds of tonnes of weapons to the brutal militias all over the world, was convicted in New York earlier this year of trying to supply anti-helicopter missiles to Columbian narco-terrorist group FARC.

He denied the charges and claimed to be a victim of political row between his home country of Russia and the US.
