Wadeema's dad jailed for affair

A father and his lover who allegedly tortured his two daughters, killing one of them, have been jailed for a year after being found guilty of having an illegal affair.

Dubai Court of Misdemeanors handed down the sentence to the two Emiratis yesterday. They are yet to face trial for the abuse charges.

Sources at Dubai Courts told 7DAYS that 29-year-old Hamad Saod Juma Al Sherawi and his 27-year-old lover Al Anood Mohammad Al Ameri had presented what they claimed was a marriage document, but it proved to be illegal and invalid.

Dubai Public Prosecution has also referred the couple to the court of first instance where they face charges of using force, making threats and using physical torture against Wadiyma, eight, and Meyra, seven. Prosecutors say Wadiyma died from her injuries and have called for the couple to be given the death sentence if convicted.

The head of the investigation team, prosecutor Mohammad Ali Rustom, said: “They burned them with boiling water, used a hot iron on their skin, electrical cables, stun-guns, knives and bars. They locked them in a bathroom and closets for hours without water and food.”

Wadiyma’s body was found in a deserted area three months after she is believed to have died. Officers began a search after Meyra told her uncle about the abuse and he went to the police.
