Waiting for an ID - five months after applying
How difficult is it to get an ID card?
I applied in September and after repeated calls through October, November, December, January, February and now March, I have still to receive my card. Each call is met with the same response, “You will receive it within five days”. Five days has turned to five months and today, after waiting on hold for 30 minutes to speak to a supervisor, I was told that the centre had not received a scanned copy of my visa. You tell me that today - after five months…
How difficult is it to, within a reasonable timeframe of one month, send an sms, email, or call the applicant informing them of the reason for the delay? For five months, I put my health at risk from not being able to see the doctor without an ID card, bank operations for my business, etc. And now, I’m being forced to visit an ID centre to complete the process after five months.

“@ Nawaf, seriously After 7 months don't you think we have exhausted those channels ? The system is flawed and we are wasting our time making phone calls, visiting ID centers and logging on to the website.”

“Another classic money spinner!!! Try and check into a hotel with your UAE ID card, the staff look at you like you've got 3 heads!!! But mention you have a British passport/driving license and you can see the relief form on their face.”

“I have applied for Emirates ID on dated 20 january 2013, i have received the message for modification of application. i visited typing center for doing modification but they told modification option is not open to do. So i call emirates id they told not to worry they have the details as its linked to DNRD. They told to track application online . When i am checking online its is showing its lying in EMPOST when i am calling empost they are telling wait it will come to your p o box. repeated calls to empost having same answer wait wait .................... when this wait will over i dont know. request the authorities to take immediate action and provide me the card.”

“Check your application copy and make sure the mobile number mentioned is correct. Then visit the website http://tinyurl.com/aojtdnh and type in your application number, you will will see the status update or requirements stating the scanned visa copy. Then you can send them an online inquiry using the format provided in English. Within 24 hours you will be notified via SMS what to do. If you have done this, you could have saved 5 months instead of writing about it in the 7Days. ALl you had to do is either visit an ID center or the website!”

“This whole ID thing is a nightmare. My family all applied on the same day, two weeks later they received their ID cards. Seven months later and after numerous calls have been made, I still have no clue as to when I will get the prized ID.”
