Waitress jailed after botched suicide

A hotel worker who tried to take her own life after being fired from her job has been locked up for two months.

Dubai Court of Misdemeanours was told how the 30-year-old from Belarus attempted suicide by slashing her neck and wrists with a razor.

She then went into the five-star Dubai hotel with blood dripping from her wounds to try and win back her job. When she couldn’t find the management she went on a rampage, slashing cars.

During investigations the waitress said she intended to kill herself. “I bought the razor for this purpose,” she said. The court was told that the woman lost her job in August last year but turned up at the hotel on January 4 covered in blood.

Prosecutors said the waitress failed in her attempt to track down her bosses to plead for another chance so she took the razor blade and scratched two vehicles in the car park - a BMW and a black Hummer.

The woman got in her ­car and drove off. She was only stopped when she had to be taken to hospital after being involved in a car crash.

Prosecution said she had believed the vehicles she damaged were owned by the hotel, but they actually belonged to two guests staying there.

“I saw her damaging the cars, when I tried to stop her she ran away,” a security guard said in official records. She had denied charges of attempted suicide and damaging properties but was found guilty by the court and handed a one-month jail term for each charge.
