Woman accused of taxi romp tells of shame
The British expat accused of stripping off in the back of a Dubai taxi and having sex has spoken out about the case.
In an interview with British tabloid The Sun, Becky Blake, 29, described spending five days in a cell at Bur Dubai Police Station after indulging in a four-hour brunch followed by a hotel happy hour and a further four hours drinking in another bar.
Blake, of Dorking, Surrey, who has since her arrest
lost her Dhs575,000 job as a recruitment consultant, admitted: “I like to party and I like to drink. I’m a single girl with a good job. I am no saint.”
A prosecution official said police arrested Blake and an Irishman when the cabbie pulled over on Sheikh Zayed Road to inform a police patrol they were being indecent on the backseat. The pair, who deny any wrongdoing, were detained for five days.
Blake said: “It’s all a blur. It had been a great day - I was dancing and drinking from 12pm till gone 10 at night.”
He said she “went from having fun in the sun” to a police cell in a matter of hours. Convent-educated Blake added: “I come from a middle-class, very respectable family. They are Catholics and have traditional values.
“Now I have brought shame on my family. I know they are supporting me but I also know how much this is hurting them. I feel ashamed.
“I have lost my job because I am seen as a stigma to the company. I can’t work, I can’t leave the country and I don’t even want to go out because I feel like people are looking at me and I can’t take any risks.”
The taxi driver and policeman who allegedly saw the pair are due to be questioned by prosecutors on Thursday. Results of forensic tests to determine whether the pair had intercourse are pending.
They face initial charges of illegal sex, public indecency and consuming alcohol.
