'We're being asked to hand over too many bucks for a burger'
Recently there has been a drastic increase in the food prices in the UAE and it’s tough to live within a budget.
A large majority of people in the UAE struggle to make ends meet. Moreover, the price of fast-food has rocketed. A simple meal now costs nothing less Dhs20 at any fast-food outlet. The prices, unfortunately, are too high in comparison to the quality and quantity of the food served at restaurants.
I feel that the quality of food at the fast-food and even other restaurants has declined rapidly. Most of the restaurants and fast-food outlets in the country charge customers’ as per their wish and will. I am a regular fast-food consumer and therefore, I am sure that the prices are hiked on almost a routine basis.

Most of us are compelled to spend a lot on fast-food due to our busy work schedules and hectic lifestyles. Restaurants continue to take advantage of the situation by raising the prices of meals and compromising on the quality and quantity of food served.
Every month, there is a difference of Dhs2-Dhs5 when it comes to the price of food and other basic items used at home. I just hope that these increases in price are actually monitored by the regulatory bodies in the UAE so that the prices can remain constant for longer durations.

“Recommend watching "Supersize Me" and then "Food Matters", then perhaps writing up a list of fresh ingredients to purchase from your local supermarket within that budget you would have otherwise used at a fast food outlet.
You may be surprised at just how much you can buy, and how many healthy, satisfying meals you can quickly create. Plan ahead. Make lunch the night before, and take it with you. Organise a pot luck with your co-workers - everyone bringing in a dish, and you could make quite an impact on the atmosphere and everyone's health with as much effort as it would have taken you to get soggy fries and a questionable burger/chicken sandwich.”

“Are you for real? if i get it right, you are complaining that eating everyday unhealthy food is getting too expensive and not only that but you are forced too because of "busy work schedules and hectic lifestyles"?
Let's not loose focus on a simple fact, you eat what you want to eat and if you can't afford it then look into alternatives, one of them amongst many being shopping and cooking!
Additionally remember that the time available is dictated only by how You want to use it.
Get real, stop being lazy and most of all drop the excuses!”

“Fast-food intake should now be one of the questions we're asked by the doctor. Do you smoke, drink, ruin your insides with burgers? Fatima - jam (sugar-free) and bread (not white) is fast food and better for you. Sure it would take you less time to make that than it takes a clown with red hair to rustle you up a burger”

“I think you've got a valid point that the prices may well be going up, but to complain about the quality declining is a bit silly. The quality is extremely low to begin with because the fast food companies use the cheapest raw ingredients (which is why fast-food is generally the cheapest option)...what do you expect? As others have said, I'm sure it must be cheaper to buy your own produce in and make meals for yourself?”

“Actually, when you are calculating the cost of fast food, its much much more than you think. YOu have to take into consideration all the money that you will be spending on your health. The price of the actual meals is only a small fraction of what you pay.”

“This "letter" appears to be more of a moan at the prices charged by fast food outlets & restaurants as opposed to the basic cost of raw food stuff.
A few options spring to mind..
1) Don't buy from them..!!
2) Make your own lunch, which if you use reasonable food selections will be far cheaper. I can't believe your life is so fast paced & hectic that you can't find a few minutes to prepare yourself a lunch..??
3) It's called business.”

“Regular fast food consumer eh? Did you use your typing wand to write that letter? Restaurants are not taking advantage of hard-working consumers, they're taking advantage of fatties who can't say no to burgers.”
