Five to be charged with kidnapping and property seizure

Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution has referred five people to the criminal court on the charges of kidnapping, illegal seizure of property and use of telecommunications equipment.

The five accused ware a Saudi, a Yemeni and three Emiratis.

One of the men is accused as posing as a women and contacting the victim via Blackberry services, tricking him into given the suspect money.

The suspect then asked to meet the victim at a shopping mall car park, WAM said.

"At the arrival, the victim was taken aback by the existence of more people who forced him to get into the car," the statement said. "The victim was driven to Al Ain City, where the defendants seized Dhs18,000 from the victim after they had coerced him to sell his vehicle under the duress."

The defendants allegedly confessed to their crime during questioning by prosecutors after hearing the statements of witnesses and viewing the audiovisual evidence.
