“A conversation at the counter of a Coffee shop in Dubai (I wont say exactly where to "protect" the staff) yesterday:
Staff: "Hi what would you like"
Me: "Cafe Latte thanks"
S: "Medium?"
M: "Yeah.... oh no wait, make it a small."
S:"I'm sorry sir, I have already entered it as a medium" (He indicates the register)
M: "Fine, just change it... I want a small."
S: "I'm sorry sir I can't. We are only allowed one void a day"?
M: "What? You haven't started making it, I haven't paid, just change the order please."
S: "Sorry sir we are not allowed to make changes. Like I said just one void a day. Head Office rules."
M: "You have to be kidding me??? I don't want a medium, just change it to a small!! How hard is this?"
S: "Really sorry sir (at this point the other staff all chipped in, in agreement), but we are not allowed to void .... blah blah blah
So.... to this particular Coffee shop... I think I'm going to avail myself of the thousands of other coffee shops in Dubai and not ever bother with you guys again. Several new ones have just opened haven't they? Cool. What this exchange says about a) your trust in your staff, b) your understanding of service and c) your contempt of your customers... is astonishing.”
“That is pretty special. I'd recommend writing to their Head Office describing the behaviour of that particular branch, and indicating a photo of the other chain and branch you will be frequenting from now on.”
“I don't think is the head office rules but the way they interpreted the rule, customer rights phone number is always available and this is a perfect case to inform about”
