'Find missing sailor’s taxi driver'
Family and friends of missing British sailor Timmy MacColl are urging people in Dubai to help find the cabbie who picked up the dad-of-two outside the Rock Bottom Café, where he was last seen.
Timmy spent the day at Dubai Seafarers’ Mission before going to the Bur Dubai club on the night of May 26-27.
Shipmates said they put him in a taxi at about 1.40am, paid the driver Dhs70 and asked for Timmy to be taken back to their ship, HMS Westminster, at nearby Port Rashid.

The journey, which would have cost approximately Dhs30, should have taken no more than 10 minutes. The Scottish sailor never made it back on board the frigate.
Yesterday, Nigel Fleetwood, who oversees the Bring Timmy Home facebook campaign page -which has 137,000 followers - told 7DAYS: “We really need to help the local authorities locate Timmy’s taxi driver.
“Please print out the flyer [pictured] and every taxi you use, please show the driver and ask if they have seen him or know anything.
“By doing this we can reach out to a large percentage of taxi drivers. Let’s find the driver and let’s bring Timmy home.”
HMS Westminster docked at Port Rashid around May 15 and had to head back to pirate-busting operations in the Indian Ocean four days after Timmy vanished. It had been berthed alongside military ships from the US, Australia and Turkey.

“Hopefully this has been tried already but surely the taxi companies have a GPS record of their fleet, they should be able to put in the date/location details into their database and find out which taxis serviced the area around Bur Dubai night club on the night of the 26-27th May. I know the Abu Dhabi taxi companies have a very similar service. Fingers crossed.”

“Just a thought maybe it would be worth trying to find out names of the 3 ships docked along side Hms Westminster possibly try find out where they are likely to next berth or even contacts who may be able to contact anyone on board them ships and get the posters around the US, Turkish and Australian docks., i am not suggesting timmy is on one but somebody aboard those ships could know a tiny bit of info that could help the investigation he may have been seen by someone on them ships or anything.... Anything is worth a try....BTH”
