What is
secondhand smoke?
There are
many types of smoking like first hand smoke, and third hand smoke. But we are
focusing on secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke is the inhalation of a lightened
up cigarette which comes from burning tobacco. Secondhand smoke is very dangerous
to our body and to our minds. Secondhand smoke comes from the actual smoke.
What are the
diseases of secondhand smoke?
Secondhand
smoke can cause many diseases like lung cancer which can make it hard to breathe.
Secondhand smoke can cause heart disease which can damage the blood circulation.
Secondhand smoke is really harmful to all body organs. Also secondhand smoke
can cause asthma which makes hard to breathe without an inhaler.
What are the chemicals in secondhand smoke
and how many?
There are
more than 7,000 chemicals in secondhand smoke includes : ammonia which is used
in cleaning products, butane, used in lighter fluid, carbon monoxide, found in
car exhaust, chromium, used to make steel, cyanide used in chemicals weapons,
formaldehyde, an industrial chemical, lead a toxic metal and polonium a
radioactive substance. These are a lot of chemicals that you don't want them to
go in your body.
Secondhand
smoke not only can damage you from inside but from outside too. Secondhand
smoke can cause your hair to smell bad nose and ear irritation and a lot more.
We are three students from the universal American School Dubai and want to
raise awareness of secondhand smoke. Each year the US has an estimate, 46,000
deaths of people who don't smoke. 34,000 adults with lung cancer who do not
smoke as a result of secondhand smoke. Up to 1 million children who have asthma
in the US from secondhand smoke.
