7DAYS

I think I’ll go car shopping this weekend - nothing fancy, just a standard four-door family sedan. I envisage myself having this conversation with the forecourt salesman.

Salesman: “So, sir, you see, this model has all the latest specifications and modifications as standard.”

Me: “Ah, but does the ‘levitation device’ come as standard?”

Salesman: “Sorry, sir... I don’t understand?”

Me: “You know, the one that some drivers here expect all cars to have, so that you can get out of their way when it is physically impossible - like when there’s traffic to the right of you and nowhere to move over or like in slow-moving traffic when they tailgate and flash when ahead of you is nothing but more traffic and you can’t go anywhere? It seems these days if you can’t move over to the left or right, some drivers expect your car to lift off the ground so they can speed underneath you and move one car ahead - so if this device doesn’t come as standard, I’m afraid I’m not interested.”

I think there is a market here for that device and manufacturers better have it ‘as standard’ soon, before lives are lost at the hands of some of the moronic drivers on UAE’s roads I’ve seen in the last week or so..

“Also, please ask them if the car comes equipped with a "sense of humor" device, so we don't have to read these horrible jokes again.”

“As long as it comes with a rear indicator that flashes orange instead of red which seems to be worryingly becoming increasingly popular. It's time the RTA fails any car which does not have an orange flashing rear indicator at inspection time.”
